What details do you need to tax a car online?
If you tax a car online, is it easy to do and what details do they need? If I change my insurance on the phone, will the insurance company give me the details I need on the phone and will it go through if I change the insurance the day I tax it? Can I do that on a Saturday? I won't have a tax renewal number or insurance details as I would be buying it that day and phoning to insure it so the details won't be in the post yet.

- visit the site and check, but as far as I know if you have very recently changed your insurer they may not be able to do it online http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/
- As long as you have current valid insurance and an MOT, all you need is the registration number, your registration document or reminder, and your credit card to pay. You will get your tax disc in the post within 5 working days. DirectGov (the website) will inform you if they don't have your current insurance details. Yes, you can do it at the weekend though it may take a day longer to process. Yes, the insurers should be able to insure your vehicle immediately, even on a Saturday.
- I renew my car tax on line every year. It's very easy. All you need is the renewal form they send you in the post as it has a number you have to enter on the web page. It automatically checks via its databases whether your car is insured and has a valid MOT. Whether it will find your insurance if you have changed it I don't know. Why don't you renew your tax disc before you change your insurance? Makes no difference to when your tax disc runs out next time.
- All you need is your tax renewal notice with the ref number, your insurance cover note and that's it. Ja.
- You can tax without the renewal form is well. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_069680
- Theoretically once you change your insurance details over the phone / online is better,(as you get policy reference number) - to your new vehicle you should be on the data-base at the DVLA., but I would give it 24 hours to be sure. Yes you can do this 24/7/365. Just type in the vehicle reg, new keepers name & address & any reference numbers on the V.5 (log book) document, & you're done.
