I got into a wreck, will my car get totaled?
I got into a small wreck today I got clipped on the side by another driver and got spun around. Like the police do with their PIT maneuver. NOONE was hurt and there was only minor damage to the car that hit me. Only a small finder bender and that's it. BUT my car had a bent rear left tire. And my side airbag was deployed. 1.) Do you think my car will be considered TOTALED. I drive an 02' ford focus that I purchased for 5400. Please tell meeeee

- is this a serious question lol i bent rim and a airbag deploying doesnt make a car totaled the only way it would be totaled is if the engine was damaged or if the car is wrecked from the front of the car
- Probably not. A car is only considered totaled when the cost of repair exceeds the value of the vehicle.
- Your car will only be totalled when the cost to your insurance to repair the car exceeds the market value they agreed to insure it for (i.e. the damage to your car costs more to fix than your car is worth). If it's only minor damage as described chances are your insurer (if you have comprehensive insurance) or the other person's insurer (for third party insurance) will just pay to get the damage fixed.
- If your car is insured you maybe able to get a claim on your car and they will get a claims adjuster to see if it will be a total loss or not.
- Did you get an estimate yet? Based on the info you provided(which is basically NONE) no one can answer this question. If you got an estimate from the body shop how much was it for?
- There are specific items that are required replacement items when a deployment occurs or when an airbag light comes on...and there are some items that are "check only". Check out the websites below for the EXACT answers to your questions including fault code charts and reset information. This site tells you exactly what needs to be replaced and how to access them (seat belts & all) on over 3500 cars. It's a pay site ($14.95 / day), but it's little money well spent to get the correct answers and to see exactly what you're after...it uses pictures, not text, so you can see what you’re looking for. This is the same website insurance companies and body shops use to determine what needs to be replaced. Good Luck...it's not too bad of a job & if your state allows it, used parts or parts from ebay should be ok Lastly, here's a page in this site that tells you which cars need a scan tool and which ones can be done without
