Better to buy a new car online or at a dealership?

I've been looking at new cars online and was wondering if there is any advantage to actually going to the dealership to buy one or if it's cheaper online because there is no sales commissions. Thanks in advance for any good advice.

  1. Never buy a new car! unless you do not know cars or finances! Dont buy online. you might not get what you want...
  2. Whether you buy on line or at a dealership, someone is getting a commission and the dealer is making money. The problem with getting multible quotes on line is you get "low balled". Do your research on line, find out invoice, holdback, dealer incentives etc. than visit the dealer and make a deal. Most new cars can be bought for invoice or less.
  3. It better to buy it in a dealerchip for you can test drive it to see if you like it.
  4. I dont know much about buying online but i am assuming you wont be able to get to test drive the car and get it the same day you purchase it which is a bummer. Also, while you are the dealership you also have to handle all the financing parts of the deal which i am not sure how they do online. I guess the only advantage of getting it online is that you might be able to get the exact model you want with the exact features you want while going to to dealership you have to take what they got.
