Are Car Titles Public Record?
I need to find out what vehicles are registered to a certain person. Is there anyway to find this. I have their name, address and social, but I am obviously not them. I know that house titles are public record and can be acquired via public offices, are car titles the same way?
Public Comments
- all car records are documented, in the DMV, depart of motor vehicles
- yes all dmv Record are
- If you went in with just a plate number or VIN#, they wouldn't give you a name and address. That's against the law. But good question....If you go in with the opposite...with the name and address, they might. hummmmmm, let me stroke my chin and ponder this..... Sounds like a divorce situation. And they may not want to get into the middle of that without a court order saying they must. Titles are not thought of as public record...it's private property. Private assets....so my guess is no...they won't give you info.
- Absolutely not. The DMV cannot give out any information unless to the person a car is registered to. Why would you need to find out who owns what anyway?
