How do I transfer car title to a family member?

My name and my Dad's name is on the title (car is paid off). What steps do I take to put the car only in my Dad's name and take my name off of the title? Thanks!

1. Head over to your local Department of Motor Vehicles. They should be able to take care of you.
2. go to the tax collection agency and take off your name off of the registration, and give it to the ppl who work their and theyll submit it
3. all depends on the state that you are in. 1. see if the lien holder signed the title off to you and your father. if not contact them. 2. how does the title read. your name AND/OR your fathers name? this will decide how you both sign off on the title. most likely if it reads AND/OR, then you can just sign off as seller. this should remove your name. 3. your father will sign on as buyer. most likely in two places. again it all depends on the state that you are in. 4. take your father with you to your local dvm or treasure office to do the transaction befor you do anything. this way you don't make any mistakes. trust me if you make mistakes they are not always easy to correct. also never fill in the odometer reading unles you are sure that all the numbers are correct. this is the hardest thing to correct. this would be alot easier to answer if i knew the state that your title is in. if you need any more help please go ahead and contact me
4. (In the USA) You will have to sign the title off to Dad. There will be no sales tax due between close family members but there will be fees to get a new title issued. Simply take the title and Dad to your local friendly DMV office
